Jacksonville City Council District 1

Elected to the Jacksonville City Council in 2015, Joyce Morgan currently serves on the Rules Committee and the Transportation, Energy and Utilities Committee. Morgan is best known for consistently holding District 1 Town Hall Meetings every month other than July and December.

Last year Morgan served as City Council Chaplain and her first year, Morgan was appointed to serve as Floor Leader. She also received the "Charles D. Webb Award" her first year. It's the City Council's most presitigious internal award, bestowed annually, by the outgoing President, to the Council Member that best exemplifies the extraordinary committment to public service demonstrated by the late Charles D. Webb during his years on the City Council. Mr. Webb served on the City Council from 1971 until his death in 1976.

Morgan is a former news anchor and reporter, who has nearly three decades in broadcasting and is well known and respected throughout the south. These experiences have exposed her to Arlington and the entire county and have helped sharpen her knowledge and understanding of what is essential to a strong community and city.

Morgan is currently a media and public relations consultant focusing on delving into community outreach for local and regional clients. She has been a lifelong community servant using her communication and public relations experience to volunteer with dozens of organizations from the Bridge of Northeast Florida, PACE Center for Girls, the Diabetes Association, Cancer Society, Children’s Home Society, numerous PTAs, and the Arlington YMCA to educational institutions like Edward Waters College.

Morgan has a host of honors ranging from– media awards to Girl Scouts Women of Distinction and Media Woman of the Year in Atlanta GA. She has also garnered recognition from the Women of Color Cultural Foundation, the YWCA, Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association.

Morgan is married to Dr. Richard Danford, Jr. CEO of the Jacksonville Urban League. They have three children, Faith, Morgan, and Richard Danford III.

Joyce and her family are members of Bethel Baptist Institutional Church.
